Peas Kasha Puree
(great kids recipe)
Ingredients:
Peas (16oz)
Potato (4 medium)
Vegetable oil (4oz)
Bacon Crumbs
Salt (optional)
Serves 4
Cooking Instructions:
1. Wash peas
2. Soak in warm water for 8-10 hours
3. Combine peas with water so water just covers the
peas
4. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat, cover, and simmer until peas are ready, stirring
occasionally
5. Separately cook potatoes. After
they are ready drain water and squash potatoes
6. While cooking potatoes cut onions
7. Fry in oil until golden brown
8. When peas are ready (tender, not mushy), mix in prepared onions and bacon crumbs. Stir trying to
turn the peas into puree
9. Add mashed potatoes
10. Keep cooking over low heat for another 15 minutes, turn off the heat and drain excess water, add salt.
Stir
Comments:
Serve hot. After kasha is ready you can use a mixer to achieve paste like consistency. Add water or milk to make kasha mushier.
Whole
Grains Fact: Most whole grains need two times as much water as the amount of grains you’re cooking and just need to be simmered until the water is absorbed, but check the recipes below for more details.
