Grain Recipe: Russian Style Oatmeal (Porridge, Ovsyannaya Kasha)
You can easy make it to be addition to vegan
recipes by replacing dairy milk and butter with
soy milk and vegetable oil.
Ingredients:
Rolled Oats/ Oat Flakes (16oz)
Water (24oz)
Milk (16oz)
Salt (2tsp)
Butter (3tbsp)
Serves 4
Cooking Instructions:
1. Combine oat flakes with water
2. Bring to a boil
3. Reduce heat and simmer until all water is
absorbed
4. Add 8oz glass of milk, wait until milk boils
5. Add another 8oz of milk
6. Cook until kasha thickens stirring occasionally
7. Stir in salt and butter
8. You can experiment by reducing or increasing volume of added milk to have kasha more or less
viscous
Comments:
Serve oatmeal with sugar or honey. Kasha from oats is never boring - create your own flavors every morning by stirring in jams or chunked fruit. To achieve better taste add jams or chunked fruits 2-3 minutes before kasha is done.
